Mitra started with a simple idea and a suitcase full of jewellery.
Every time we'd visit India, we'd come back with a bag full of stunning pieces: kundan chokers from Jaipur, temple jhumkas from Hyderabad, antique necklaces from old family jewellers in Bangalore. And every time, friends in the US would ask the same question: "Where did you get that? Can you bring me one too?"
That question kept coming. So did the suitcases.
Eventually, we realized something. Women across America — Indian, South Asian, and everyone who loves beautiful jewellery were tired of two things: spending a fortune on fine gold for pieces they'd only wear twice a year, or settling for cheap, flimsy fashion jewellery that didn't feel anything like the real thing.
So we built Mitra.
